How to enable Auto Groups and its benefits
1. Navigate to the Auto Group Page
- On your Moodle page, go to “Course administration” in the side blocks

Click “Users”, “Groups”, then “Auto Groups”.
2. Auto group by tutor group

Click drop down next to “Create new group set” and select “Custom profile field”.

Set “Group by” to “Tutor Group”.
- Click “Save changes”.
3. Review groups and members

You should now see the number of groups created

To check groups have been set up correctly, select “Groups” under the “Course administration” side block

You should now see the groups listed in the “Group” box. You can select a group to view the group members added.

4. Benefits of auto groups

You can filter the participants in your course and assignment submissions by tutor groups.

You can restrict sections and resources on your page depending on a student’s tutor group.
